The
article “How Mental Health Difficulties Affect Children” specifically states
that Mental Health involves everybody. I agree that everyone has Mental Health,
whether it is good or bad, because it definitely makes an impact on daily life.
Mental Illness is a state of mind where someone has an emotional or behavioral
problem; it affects 20% of Canadians. Mental Illness is caused by the connection
between a person’s genetic, biological, personality and environmental traits.
In my opinion Mental Health is going under the radar, because before this
research I didn’t realize that so many people were being affected. And I’m sure
my classmates were unaware of the underlying problem as well. I understand how
Mental Health involves everybody, if it’s you being affected, or someone you
know. However people that are not educated and have a Mental Illness will never
know, and might be getting punished for behavioral problems. I don’t think that
is right, and that is why Mental Health should be getting the credit it needs
to become something that isn’t getting forgotten any time soon. The article
clearly recognizes that “if Mental Illness in young people is not properly
diagnosed and treated, it increases the likelihood of significant health issues
for them as adults and greatly limits their ability to become productive
members of society.” But if not everyone is aware of the different types and
affects of Mental Illness then how are they supposed to help the people around
them, or even themselves? In conclusion Mental Illness needs to be directly
approached with positive reinforcement and knowledge.
